Luxembourg residents are quite spoiled with good restaurants, but how far do you have to go to dine at one of the world’s top 50 restaurants? Or maybe there just happens to be one where you’re going on holiday? “The Diners Club World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy” has just released this prestigious list for 2013.
Let’s start with the top 10 list:
- El Celler de Can Roca, Girona, Spain
- Noma, Copenhagen, Denmark
- Osteria Francescana, Modena, Italy
Mugaritz, San Sebastián, Spain
Eleven Madison Park, New York, USA
D.O.M., São Paulo, Brazil
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, London, England
Arzak, San Sebastián, Spain
Steirereck, Vienna, Austria
Vendôme, Bergisch Gladbach Germany
It seems you should be looking at the map of Europe, with 8 of the top 10 restaurants. Zoom in on Spain, with not only the best restaurant in the world, but also three among the top 10, then zoom in on San Sebastián, boasting two of them. But hey, if you need an excuse to go to New York or Brazil… You might not feel you need an excuse to go to Germany, but #10 is interesting to Luxembourg residents: Bergisch Gladbach is close to Cologne, only a couple of hours drive, and the restaurant happens to be in a beautiful castle where you can spend the night. Maybe for that very special occasion?
Curiously, France has been left out of this particular map of Europe. But why be picky, let’s take a look further down on the list. Five out of 50 isn’t bad for Paris, and we’ll throw in one down south as well, because we all know that France is so much more than Paris.
- L’Arpège, Paris
Get on that train, Paris is a mere couple of hours away as well. They’re not all excessively expensive either, take a look at Le Châteaubriand and their 60 euros menu. Within that couple of hours range, there’s also #25 on the list, the Hof Van Cleve Restaurant in Kruishoutem, near Gent in Belgium. And if you continue a bit, #35, the Oud Sluis in Sluis, Netherlands, is actually just across the border from Knokke-Heist – which is the nearest seaside town for Luxembourgers.
A holiday treat? A special occasion coming up? This is the complete list of the world’s 50 best restaurants.
