It’s World Book Day on Thursday 6th March, a celebration of authors, illustrators, books, and most importantly of reading. Designated by UNESCO, the World Book Day is a worldwide celebration, marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
Celebrated for the 17th year, the World Book Day aims to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading. It’s all about getting kids closer to the books and authors they already love, and letting them discover more books and authors they’ll love every bit as much in the future.
What were some of your favourite reads when you were a child, and have you let your children discover them?
On this occasion, Chapter1 Bookshop will be giving away hundreds of free, specially published children’s books, from Saturday 1st March. Also, to mark the day, Chapter1 holds a competition for kids up to the age of 16 in different age categories.
To participate, all you have to do – alone or in a group – is submit a drawing or painting to the shop by March 4th, with pencil, paint or crayon, to do with a book. Ideally in A3 format, but – size doesn’t matter. Mark your name, age and contact details plus the title of the book. The winners will be announced on ‘World Book Day’, and the best pictures will be on display in the shop (42, Rue Astrid, Belair).
Happy reading to you and your kids!
