Lëtz Create – Natasha Liati-Jones

Each month, Miranda van den Heuvel talks to creative people in Luxembourg and says “look, Luxembourg is creative! Here’s how and where!” The first talk in 2015 is with events organizer Natasha Liati-Jones.

1. What is CREATIVITY?

Creativity has a variety of meanings to me. As an events consultant, I often channel my creativity into brainstorming ideas to bring together fun and interesting events for clients. In creating an event I need to ensure key messages and concepts which are important to my clients are adequately conveyed whilst also making the event engaging for the participants. This could be anything from promoting themselves as individuals, their company, or in some cases their art. As a radio show host, I also have the privilege of expressing my creativity when coming up with fresh material and producing stimulating shows that captivate and entertain the audience. In my free time, I enjoy acting, which is a great opportunity to be creative and expressive and it is wonderful to be able to bring life to the written word.

2. How are you creative?

I create concepts for events and work with clients to ensure their creative ideas are brought to life, often through themed events. I particularly enjoy the process of working with clients, starting from an idea on paper. Through elaborate planning, it is extremely satisfying to see a shared vision coming to life in front of our eyes. When running an event, decorations, organisation of guest lists, caterers, choice of venue, live bands – all these things are key pieces in my creative process, much like canvas and paint are key to an artist. The grand finale – the event itself is a real spectacle and in particular due to my love of the arts, my events are often very interactive, which allows participants to be creative too, making the events all the more enjoyable for all involved.

3.  Suggest a simple creative activity to our readers that can make them more creative

One thing I enjoy is surprisingly simple and easy to do – colouring in! Yes, it’s usually a children’s activity, but it’s something which you can spend as much or as little time as you like on. Even if you have a busy lifestyle, 5 minutes is all you need really to indulge yourself in a world of colours. Best thing is, this hobby doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and you’ll find it’s a fantastic way to flex your creative muscles and wonderfully therapeutic! Treat yourself and give it a go!

4. What are your top 3 websites for creative inspiration?

When in need of a creative boost or new inspiration, I often find social media to be a fabulous place to start. Pinterest has an excellent website providing fountains of funky ideas in a wide range of topics. I am also an active member of various Facebook groups and following creative individuals on Twitter. The enhanced connection with interesting people worldwide on social media platforms means that suggestions are plentiful and the possibilities are endless.

5. What are your 3 tips to become more creative in Luxembourg?

  1. Join a creative club – don’t be afraid to try something new or something different, you could be pleasantly surprised.
  2. Whether you are a well-versed musician or you’re a budding amateur, look out for local open mic nights here in Luxembourg where you can socialise and collaborate with like-minded creative individuals.
  3. If you’re after fun, interactive and creative events, but not sure where to start, look no further! Visit my Facebook page, Liati Events, where you will find regular updates of my upcoming events. With a variety of events, there is bound to be an event that will suit your interests! So come join me and be creative!

6. What’s your suggestion to make Luxembourg a more creative, innovative place?

There is no shortage of creative, innovative projects here in Luxembourg. In my opinion, the key to promoting a more creative culture is by spreading the word and engaging with people to let them know what is on offer. Joining an online community is a great way to publicise events and to find out what creative activities are available near you.
