A Day at the Fair

– What?? You’ve never been to the Anglican Church Fair?

Through the years, this is the reaction I’ve had from different people when I’ve admitted I haven’t; a reaction which always left me somewhat puzzled. I mean, what’s the big deal?

So last Sunday I went to the Anglican Church Fair to find out for myself. And it may not be such a big deal, but sometimes the nicest things aren’t, and the fair is really really nice and jovial and cute, in such picturesque surroundings and with such nice people. And dogs. And it’s so British, at least to a Scandinavian.

Like the cake competition and the hats and the flowery summer dresses and the scones and the lemon curd and the curries and the whole fair thing. Toss in a crémant or two – because this is Luxembourg after all – and it all becomes even more jovial and jolly. And it’s all for charity.

So, if you haven’t been to the Anglican Church Fair yet, you might want to go next year. And not only that, if you haven’t been to Useldange, you should go. Must be one of the cutest villages in Luxembourg, and it’s a lovely drive as well from the city.
