Luxembourg is a good place to go castle hunting, and the Grand Château d’Ansembourg is the perfect start. Less than half an hour from Luxembourg City, in quite stunning surroundings, and with the loveliest garden.
The garden is what you visit here, and it’s well worth it, with old fashioned flowers and neatly trimmed bushes, ponds and fountains, a statue alley and an easy labyrinth for the wee ones. Bring a blanket and a picnic basket!
Ansembourg is one of the seven castles in the Vallée des Sept Châteaux, from Mersch to Koerich. As an alternative to the car,a 37 km long walking trail will allow you to explore all the castles of this valley, it’s sloping green landscape and cute villages. It’s also perfect for cycling. The other castles are Koerich, Septfontaines, Hollenfels, Schoenfels, Mersch and Château d’Ansembourg (as opposed to Grand Château d’Ansembourg which we have visited here).
Happy castle hunting!
