Lëtz Create – Nerea Lascurain

Miranda van den Heuvel talks to creative people in Luxembourg and says “look, Luxembourg is creative! Here’s how and where!” The July talk is with flower headpiece designer Nerea Lascurain.

1. What is CREATIVITY?

To me, creativity is a way to express yourself and to find out how to bring your vision into reality. Everyone has the need to do that, therefore anyone can be creative.

2. How are you creative?

Basically, I design and make flower crowns and headpieces with artificial flowers. They’re meant for brides, guests, little girls or just fashion lovers who want to add that little extra to their outfits.

It’s incredible in how many ways you can use flower crowns. They look gorgeous on a hat, and the open pieces can be fixed around a hairstyle or even be worn as a necklace….the choice is yours!

My best works are the personalized ones. Not because they’re better made, whatever I do I put my passion into it, but my sense of perfection makes me work better under pressure and when I get a bit stressed.

Currently I’ve been asked to make a crown for a bride and include pieces of her wedding dress. Not sure what the result will be but I’m already thinking about how to combine flowers, tulle and lace in the most beautiful and elegant way.

3.  Suggest a simple creative activity to our readers that can make them more creative

Simply read a fairytale and let yourself go into that magic world. That will boost your creativity!

4. What are your top 3 websites for creative inspiration?

For wedding trends and ideas: stylemepretty.com

For general fashion trends: www.style.com (also has an app)

For fashion news: http://www.fashionista.com

5. What are your 3 tips to become more creative in Luxembourg?

Well, just walk around! Keep your eyes open, inspiration can come from an advert at the bus stop, at the airport, in the supermarket…

Get lost in the streets, take a seat in the park and watch people. Creativity is everywhere.

And scan Luxembourg through social networks. There are endless options for culture and arts and many groups you can join that I’m discovering at the moment. Exciting!

6. What’s your suggestion to make Luxembourg a more creative, innovative place?

Culture is already quite a big thing in Luxembourg, but creativity needs more exposure. Luxembourg is not only a place for banks and wealthy people. It has a lot to offer. The underground scene needs to be discovered and become less “undergroundish”

I think opportunities in Luxembourg are immense, and social networks can play a big part. We only need people to push that part.

7. Anything you’d like to add?

Well, some people ask what’s next. Flower crowns in winter? My idea is to get a particular type of headpiece back on the streets (still “secret”!) and maybe to experiment with accessories. However the big and most ambitious project is the petticoat part, which is still in a very early stage. I hope to be able to bring it to life soon – with the right help!
